Workshop on “Digital Humanities” by Assoc. Prof. Bryan Carter | Submit your papers for Panel Discussion on “Curriculum Design“, chaired by Assoc. Prof. Grace Oakley

Conference Theme

Language is at a nexus of interrelationships between individuals, society and culture. The interface between language and literature has been the object of considerable interdisciplinary research on methods of analysis that can be applied across the two fields and their sub-areas. Less research has focused, however, on the influence of the new technologies on this interface, which transcends borders and cultures, with the process of translation adding yet another dimension to the already complex picture. As the technological landscape continues to evolve, ideas related through literature, other modes of artistic expression and language are part of that which is being researched through the Digital Humanities. Understanding culture, diversity and inclusion through technology adds even more unique complexity to our evolving conference themes.

The 6th Annual International Conference on L3 will examine the various issues and factors that intervene at the interface of language and literature, technology and the Digital Humanities, not least, the diverse cultural context(s) in which all of these are situated.

The themes of the conference are:

Workshop on Digital Humanities
By Assoc. Prof. Bryan Carter, The University of Arizona, USA

L3 Conference 2017 will host a hands on Digital Humanities Workshop that will introduce participants to a variety of tools and supporting theories related to technology in the classroom. Considering the notion that technology is a tool that Digital Humanists use to not only teach and research a variety of concepts in an attempt to understand the human condition differently, but we also encourage all to do the same, all while selecting the most appropriate tool to solve a particular problem while supporting that choice with theory.

This session will provide hands on instruction on productivity, creative, visualization and analysis tools that participants will be able to download, install and try on their own devices, asking questions and receiving personalized assistance. There will also be an opportunity to try higher-end peripherals such as the Oculus, the HTC Vive, body scanning and Motion Capture.
